My Work

I use natural fibres and fabrics in my work, including hand dyed silks, cottons and mainly extra fine merino wools.

I have been fortunate to learn from many amazing instructors who have mentored me over the years to learn new techniques, helped me to expand my artistic horizons and hone my skills to create pieces that are unique and meaningful.

I am drawn to surface designs – the layering of materials/colours and composition so you want to look at the piece as a whole or at specific elements.  I love experimenting with colour, both with the selection of wool roving I use and surface design elements.

I primarily use a technique called “nuno felting” where both raw fine wool is felted into natural fabrics to become a solid piece.  Below is a link to a 90 second video was produced by the Weyburn Arts Council and gives you a quick overview of the process.

The time spent on each piece really varies, depending on size and complexity of the overall design and surface.  As an example, a poncho can take me 3-4 days to complete from the initial layout to wearable garment.   I work to create seamless pieces that have a lovely drape, are warm and extremely light – each being a work of art.
